August 2026: Understanding the Eclipses

This eclipse season we are being asked to release identities and expectations that no longer reflect who we are. We are beginning to imagine new ways of living, creating, leading, and connecting with one another.

And right now we are bridging two different astrological chapters.  

The Leo solar eclipse on August 12th introduces the new Leo–Aquarius nodal story, while the Pisces lunar eclipse on August 28th continues the Pisces–Virgo story we have been in since 2024.

One chapter is still being completed as another begins.

What Are the Lunar Nodes?

The lunar nodes are not planets or physical objects. They are two mathematical points where the Moon’s orbit crosses the apparent path of the Sun.

Eclipses occur when a New Moon or Full Moon falls close enough to these points.

The North Node and South Node are always opposite one another. In astrology, they represent an ongoing relationship between what is familiar and what we are learning to develop.

The South Node represents qualities, habits, identities, and experiences we already know well. It contains our natural abilities, but we can also overly rely on this energy.

The North Node points toward growth. It introduces qualities and experiences that may initially feel unfamiliar but are necessary for our evolution.

This does not mean the South Node is bad and the North Node is good. We are not meant to abandon the gifts of the South Node. We are learning how to use those gifts without being trapped by them.

These nodal points exist in our birth chart, but also influence our lives individually and collectively, as they shift to a new nodal axis every 18-months.

The True Nodes Move Into Aquarius and Leo

On July 26, 2026, the True North Node entered Aquarius while the True South Node entered Leo. They will remain on this axis until March 2028.

Because the nodes move backward through the zodiac, this shift takes us from the Pisces and Virgo axis into the Aquarius and Leo axis.

This is a collective movement away from the shadow side of Leo and toward the developmental work of Aquarius (more on this below).

The lesson of this cycle is to understand that our light becomes brighter when it contributes to the well-being of the whole.

What Does This Nodal Shift Mean Personally?

In your birth chart, Leo and Aquarius occupy specific houses. Those houses show us the areas of life where this new story will begin unfolding.

The Leo area of your chart can show where you are releasing an old identity or attachment to recognition.

The Aquarius area shows where you are being asked to grow, experiment, and connect with others.

The Leo Solar Eclipse (August 12)

Solar eclipses occur at a New Moon and correspond with new beginnings, changing circumstances, or the opening of a new life chapter.

However, this eclipse occurs near the South Node (what we're moving away from). This means the new beginning is connected to surrendering a part of the old story.

Before we develop, we may need to recognize the identity we have outgrown.

Leo is associated with creativity, courage, leadership, visibility, joy, and self-expression. At its best, Leo encourages us to live from the heart and share ourselves generously.

The shadow side of Leo is ego driven, vain, and measures self worth through visibility.

The Solar Eclipse opens a new chapter of heart centered leadership. We’re being asked to stop measuring our worth by how others see us. This means allowing ourselves to be vulnerable, expressing our creative side, and having the courage to be seen as our authentic selves. It’s also about loving for the sake of loving, without needing approval or anything in return.

The Pisces Lunar Eclipse (August 28)

The Lunar Eclipse brings the Pisces–Virgo nodal story we’ve been experiencing since 2024 to an end.

Although the nodes have now moved into Aquarius and Leo, this Full Moon Lunar Eclipse occurs near the former North Node in Pisces, helping us conclude the lessons of the previous cycle.

The South Node in Virgo has been asking us to release perfectionism, overthinking, worry, and the need to analyze or control every detail. The North Node in Pisces has been inviting in more intuition, creativity, compassion, trust, and surrender.

This is also the axis of service, health, and well-being, so you may have experienced changes in your work, routines, responsibilities, spiritual practices, or how you care for yourself and others.

Connecting the Two

As a new chapter begins, an old one is coming to an end.

The Leo Solar Eclipse introduces the new Leo–Aquarius nodal story. We’re beginning to move away from self-centered leadership and the belief that one person must hold all the power. Instead, we’re moving toward collective action, shared leadership, community priorities, and creating a future that supports the greater good.

The Pisces Lunar Eclipse then returns our attention to the past 18-month cycle. It invites us to reflect on how we have learned to choose flow over force, trust our intuition, release control, and become more compassionate, creative, and spiritually connected.
